January is a time for sorting out and getting on top of those annoying little jobs and bits of DIY you put on the backburner over Christmas.

If you’re organised, you’ve probably already started on a spring clean of the house, but what about your Mercedes car or van?

Just as fixing a leaky pipe early can stop damp spreading in your house, spotting minor vehicle faults can save you a lot of money on repairs in the long run.

Car checks are essential, whether you’re changing the tyres on your Mercedes C-Class, or the oil on your Sprinter van.

We’ve compiled a list of jobs to tick off the list to help you get started…

Have you renewed your breakdown cover

January is a depressing time. Can you imagine how much more miserable it would be if you were to breakdown on the M6?

Whilst it may not be the most exciting thing you do this month, checking your policy is in date can save you a real headache should you break down.

Before you renew, shop around for other breakdown cover offers to ensure you’re getting the best possible deal from your provider.

First aid kit and car safety set

Remember that high-visibility jacket you lent your neighbour? It’s time to get it back. Having a complete first aid and car safety kit in your vehicle is essential.

It’s also worth ensuring you have a jack, or bottle jack if your Mercedes is an HGV, and a spare tyre should you suffer a puncture or blowout.

Most kits include:

–       A high-visibility jacket

–       A torch

–       An A-Z Map

–       A fire extinguisher

–       A first-aid kit

–       A warning triangle

Take your car for a full Mercedes car servicing

Your Mercedes handbook will give you an idea of when best to get your car serviced.

If your car hasn’t been serviced for a while, why not start early in January to ensure your car is fit for the year ahead?

If you’ve recently bought a used vehicle, it’s worth taking your car for a service just to be on the safe side.

A full service will usually include:

–       Brake checks

–       Oil change

–       Tyre checks

–       Lighting checks

–       Suspension checks

It goes without saying that you should visit a Mercedes specialist for your Mercedes vehicle.

Vacuum your car interior, from top to bottom

When was the last time you gave your car a good going over with a vacuum cleaner?

Set aside a weekend to clean your vehicle’s interior. You never know what you might find underneath your seats – loose change, that missing spare key…

Modifications and changes to your insurance policy

Making modifications to your car without letting your insurer know is a sure fire way to invalidate your policy.

Perhaps you received new alloys for your Mercedes S-Class for Christmas? Maybe you’re now keeping your car on the roadside instead of the garage?

Always let your insurer know of any changes to your policy. Just like your tax return, January is the ideal time to do get all that boring admin out of the way.
