Even the most prized Mercedes-Benz may develop faults during its lifetime, usually on parts of the vehicle that aren’t exactly essential. However, when an essential system component fails, it will need a replacement as quickly as possible to make sure your vehicle is suitable for the road once again.

At Dronsfields, we see all sorts of Mercedes parts get snapped up by drivers needing a quick replacement for a common issue on their vehicle. Below we’ve put together the most common car parts that may need replacing due to wear and tear at some point in the vehicle’s lifetime.

Lights

It isn’t uncommon for headlights and indicators to fail after prolonged use. This can come about due to a faulty bulb or a faulty electrical connection within the headlight itself and is unfortunately fairly common after owning a vehicle for a long time. Thankfully it is fairly straightforward to replace a headlight yourself – simply consult the owner’s manual to confirm how to detach the faulty headlight safely.

Brake Pads

The amount of miles you cover on an annual basis will determine how long your brake pads will last. In general they are understood to need replacing every 50,000 miles, but this can differ from car to car, so it’s worth keeping an eye on them. If they are becoming less and less responsive, the car is pulling to the left or right when braking, or you hear a grinding when applying your brakes, it’s worth getting them replaced.

Fuel Filter

Over time the fuel filter in your vehicle is likely to become clogged with dirt as it works to keep your engine clean. At some point it might become clogged to the point where it won’t let anymore fuel through to the engine, or reduce the effectiveness of your car. Simply put, the filter will then have to be replaced by yourself, or a qualified mechanic.

Air Filter Box

Similarly, the air filter box that stops any external dirt or debris from entering the engine can also become clogged over time. A faulty or clogged air filter will reduce the performance of your engine and can leave it susceptible to further damage if not repaired.

Tyres

Another part of your car that will inevitably suffer over time is your tyres. After a significant amount of miles, tyres will wear down, the tread becoming more and more bald meaning it won’t be able to grip the road as well as before. Make sure to use the 20 pence test to make sure your tyres are still safe. For more information check out our handy blog, Tyre Maintenance for Mercedes-Benz Cars.

Wipers

One of less-intrusive replacements you can make on your Mercedes-Benz is by replacing worn out wiper blades. Once again, these don’t need replacing that often given their durability, but will still need doing before the next cold or rainy season occurs. The last thing you need is being stuck in a downpour without functional wipers.

Boot Lock

This isn’t as common as some issues encountered with a Mercedes-Benz, but it is still possible for the boot lock actuator to fail completely. Whilst some owners will be confident enough to remove the old actuator, disconnect the actuator cables and mount the new one, many will feel better taking it into a qualified mechanic instead.

Ignition Coil

If you’re having major issues with starting your Mercedes it can be for a number of reasons, so will have to be diagnosed by a professional mechanic. One outcome might be the failure of the ignition coil, which will need to be replaced immediately for the vehicle to work again. Warning signs this might be the issue in the first place is the car struggling to start, frequent stalling or backfiring from the exhaust.

Spark Plugs

A common replacement part, spark plugs are one of the hardest working parts in your engine, given that they withstand extreme heat by providing the spark to start your engine over and over. Unfortunately, like many parts they can deteriorate over time, mainly due to deposits forming on the surface and discolouration indicating the need for a replacement.

Mirror Glass

It’s not as common as general wear and tear on many parts of your Mercedes, but it’s still possible for the glass on your wing mirrors to become cracked or damaged due to an accident. Thankfully it is fairly straightforward to complete and shouldn’t need a mechanic as long as you have the correct part for your vehicle.
