As soon as you take your new Mercedes Benz away from the showroom, the likelihood is it will get dirty in no time, especially if you are using it every single day. If you are a fan of maintaining your vehicle under the bonnet, why not keep the bonnet clean too by treating your car to a well deserved wash?

Depending on the colour of your paintwork, it is surprising how quickly your car can get filthy due to the time of year, and whereabouts you choose to drive it. Autumn and Winter weather can quickly become a menace, leaving your windscreen and chassis covered in dirt and grime. For the safety concerns alone in having an unobscured view through your windscreen, you should think about washing your car as soon as the weather clears up.

If you are thinking of washing your car at home, follow these simple steps listed below to give your Mercedes Benz the ultimate home car wash experience. This will ensure it is looking sparkling by the time you finish with it.

What you will need

First things first, make sure that you choose a dry but mild day weather-wise to wash your car. You shouldn’t be washing in a downpour for obvious reasons, or in strong sunlight to protect your paintwork. In addition, make sure you have the following items to hand:

– Pressure washer or garden hose
– 2x Buckets
– Sponge or Wash Mitt
– Stiff Brush
– Detailing Brush
– Car Shampoo
– Several Microfibre cloths or towels
– Car Wax
– Polishing cloth

The above items will make your Mercedes Benz shine and get it looking as good as the day you picked it up. Just make sure to go off recommendation when it comes to shampoo and wax products and if you don’t have access to a power washer, a garden hose or even just a bucket and sponge will be perfectly fine. Have a read of the following 4 steps to get your vehicle looking pristine in no time at all.

Pre-Rinse

1. Park your car on a flat surface if possible and make sure you have plenty of room to access the top and bottom of the vehicle. Also get some work clothes on you don’t mind getting wet
2. Use the pressure washer, hose or sponge to give your car an initial rinse. Avoid detailed areas so not to cause any damage
3. If required, use the stiff brush to remove mud, bird poo or any other debris from the surface. Don’t forget the wheels and also the underside of the car where possible

Wash

4. Fill one bucket with warm water and dilute with car shampoo. Mix until you have a lather. Fill the other bucket with clean warm water for rinsing
5. Working from the top of the car down, use a sponge or wash mitt to apply the car shampoo thoroughly, removing mud or thicker debris as you go
6. Use the detailing brush to apply the car shampoo on detailed areas such as the grill, door handles and fuel cap
7. Once you have finished one section, rinse out your sponge, wash mitt or brush in the second bucket of clean water to remove any trapped dirt. Then repeat using the first bucket of shampoo water

Drying

8. Using a microfibre cloth or towel, gently wipe the surface dry slowly and carefully, making sure not to trap any loose grit or dirt as this can scratch the paintwork
9. Dry in a circular motion so you don’t leave streaks and don’t be afraid to user a few cloths or towels so you can get the car perfectly dry prior to the next stage

Waxing

10. Whilst this is an optional stage, it’s worth doing to get that extra sheen on your vehicle’s chassis. It will also protect the surface from scratches or blemishes on the paintwork for longer, so is worth doing frequently
11. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the type of wax you’ve got, though remember to use sparingly and cover the entire bodywork. Take a little at a time and rub in a circular motion on smaller sections
12. After you have left the wax to dry (follow manufacturer’s instructions), remove by polishing up with another microfibre cloth
