When most people think of the Mercedes Benz, few picture anything other than a state-of-the-art car with a sleek design and a luxurious interior. However, when it comes to the Mercedes Sprinter van, this is a classic large van that incorporates all the comfort of the Mercedes brand with a practical solution to all your haulage needs. Since its conception in 1995, the Mercedes Sprinter has become a staple within the commercial vehicle industry, and 3.3 million units have been sold in more than 130 countries.

The next generation of the Mercedes Sprinter van is almost upon us, and here’s a first look at the details and design of the new model.

The new Sprinter’s design was revealed in an official preview sketch, ahead of its actual unveiling at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show. The design itself features more conventional A-pillars than the previous models, that match the main body colour of the van. The grille is wider and more defined, and holds the classic three point star. On either side of the grille, the sleek, horizontal LED headlights deliver a sharp, aggressive look to the vehicle.

What is the Vision Van concept?

The Mercedes Vision Van concept was unveiled last year, and brought to us a fresh and revolutionary outlook regarding commercial vehicles. There were ideas based on autonomous driving, using drone technology to help cut down the amount of time it takes to sort packages.

The new Mercedes Sprinter bears some resemblance to the Vision Van concept, but makes no suggestion that the concept’s rooftop drones will be used.

A variety of body styles have been confirmed for the new Sprinter, including a standard panel van, a twin cab and the most luxurious model – the Tourer. As far as technical details go, the particulars are scarce. The engine and powertrain details won’t be unveiled until much closer to when the van debuts in 2018.

The new Mercedes Sprinter is expected to arrive in UK showrooms in the first half of 2018.
