Those iconic Mini Coopers from The Great Escape got 5.3% of votes, with the fantastic flying Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in fifth place with 2.8%.

DID YOU KNOW?
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is based on a novel of the same name, written by none other Ian Fleming! That means that the James Bond creator influenced two of the top five answers.

Some of our favourite answers

The Edwardian cars in Downton Abbey – Everyone loves a bit of Downton, admit it.

The Flintstones’ prehistoric car – Surely this should have received more votes, although all that running did look rather tiring.

The Muppet car which can travel by map 🙂 – The smiley face at the end of this entry really made it for us, after all, who wouldn’t be smiling when travelling in the Muppet car?!

Bessie – One for all the Whovians out there! John Pertwee drove this yellow roadster during his time on Doctor Who.

Heartbeat police Anglia – Remember the 1990s ITV series Heartbeat?

Morse’s jag – Inspector Morse certainly had an eye for a classic car.

Mercedes convertible in Bridget Jones’s diary – Now we’re talking! The 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Convertible is a true classic beauty.

Lightning McQueen – Everyone loves Pixar, with the Cars star, Lightning McQueen receiving a few mentions.

Postman Pat’s van – Postman Pat, Postman Pat, everyone knows his bright red van!

Lady Penelope’s Rolls Royce in Thunderbirds – FAB 1 was the pink, six-wheeled Rolls Royce with enough gadgets to make even James Bond green with envy. Complete with chauffer!

Noddy’s Car – Noddy is arguably the world’s most famous taxi driver. The iconic yellow and red car has ferried the residents of Toytown since 1951.

Chevy Camaro, Bumblebee – You’ll probably either know Bumblebee as an animated, yellow Volkswagen Beetle or the racing stripe clad Chevy Camaro from the live action Transformers film.

Bond Controversy

The suave secret agent finished in first place under controversial circumstances! There have been 23 Bond films since the spy’s big screen debut in 1962, meaning he has had an awful lot of cars! Some of our answers specified which Aston Martin they preferred (DB5, DB7, DBS, DB9) but most simply answered ‘James Bond’s Aston Martin’. The Lotus submarine car from The Spy Who Loved Me also got a mention, showing that people definitely have their favourite individual Bond cars. Were we right to count all of the Bond Aston Martins together, or should Herbie have taken the crown?
